It's been blazing hot here.. I think we've been melting. It's so rarely over 100 degrees, so we don't have air conditioning:-( I'm wishing for some cool coastal breezes today!!
It's Monday, a new week! Here is a great autumn color, saffron/ lemon. (Troy and I had great Indian food this weekend, which got me thinking about saffron.. yum!) This color is so striking with green, blue or cream. I love this real wedding in lemon here!!
Judy's favorite color was orange, she loved fall colors! From her nail polish color, her car color, her clothes.. it reminds me of her all the time!

OK, I'm finally back. After a crazy time of funeral planning, traveling and family time, it's nice to be home. Thank you so much for your e-mails, calls and letters. Troy is doing better and we are still sorting out stuff for Troy's dad. I'll be back to regular blogging, dreaming about happier times! hugs- b
We lost Troy's mom suddenly last night, due to a sudden heart attack. We are all in shock and trying to support Troy's dad. It's like sleep walking through a nightmare. We never have enough time. Judy and Leon were married 44 years and thankfully Leon was with her when she passed. We were able to be with him a few hours later. Thanks for your prayers, I'll be stepping back from Sugar Plum for the next few weeks to be with family.

Sometimes things fall apart in pieces and other times it's a huge collapse! For us this summer marked the all the little pieces falling apart on a domestic adoption we'd been apart of for the last year. We are hitting the one year mark since he first spent an afternoon in our home as a newborn, now that has completely unraveled. Because it was a confidential case, we were unable to post online any of the hundreds of pictures and videos of him from the last year with us. Maybe that's part of the hard part, unable to truly share "everything". The irony is this is not our first child to lose, we lost two little girls separately in Vietnam in 2008. Word came on Tuesday that elements beyond our control dictated an outcome that leaves us heartbroken, for him and us.
As we wrestle to understand all the reasons behind it, and trying to understand God's hands in all this.....Wednesday (yesterday) we learned that Troy's mom was rushed to ER in Southern California. She has since been airlifted to another hospital and is suffering from an aortic aneurysm and has a surgical consult this morning. We are of course going down to be with her. (For all of you that know us in "real life" this is a replay of 2008- losing kids in Vietnam, followed by Troy's dad's hospitalization and subsequently them moving in with us for 6 weeks.)
Yet at the end of 2008, beginning of 2009 when I didn't think things could get much worse, Emma was dropped in our laps and life was never the same. This week, in the middle of these storms, Emma continues to give us hope and a reason to celebrate. For the last 5 days we've been working on potty training and she's suddenly "getting it", doing must of her business in her potty and staying dry all night (11 hours) last night for the first time ever! Life is such a dance of joy and grief, hardship and happiness. I'll be blogging on and off for the next few days..... hugs- b
You don't have to live in a ritzy, chic town, or next door to a national park to have a beautiful garden wedding. Gardens, parks and public green areas are everywhere! Let the natural beauty of the garden work for you!
Depending on your region of the country, you may have to consider humidity, rain or extreme heat, but in general remember, with outdoor weddings you want to avoid direct sun, for photography. The sun is more directly overhead from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. which is not good for photography because harsh shadows can make unflattering pictures. A little later in the afternoon or earlier in the morning may be better.
Spring and summer are especially wonderful times to have garden weddings since more flowers and plants are in bloom. Look for areas that provide shade for guests and have room for adequate seating.
I use to make fun of my Dad's wedding tux with his ruffled shirt. Well now he's coming back in fashion. Ruffled shirts, skirts and dresses today have a modern twist. We just finished this custom letterpress business card project, for a designer in Tennessee. We made the custom duplex paper, with soft white 100% cotton on one side and a slate blue paper on the back. The front was printed in a custom pantone color ink, a grey/ blue hue and we did a blind impression run on the back. (For you letterpress printers out there, we used a little opaque white ink to make the impression pop again the darker paper.) We love double sided printing, and with custom duplex paper, the sky is the limit regarding all the different color combinations available! Enjoy.
